Privacy Policy

Chesed Link ("we," "us," or "our") operates the ChesedLink mobile application (the "App"). We take your privacy seriously. To better protect your privacy, we provide this privacy policy notice explaining the way your personal information is collected and used.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information You Provide to Us
When you create an account and use the App, you provide us with information, including:
- Account information — your email address, full name, the neighborhood or city you select, the interests you choose, and the invite code you use to sign up.
- Profile information — an optional profile photo, helper status, and your default preference for anonymous posting.
- Phone number (optional) — if you choose to add a phone number to your profile or to a specific post, you control whether it is visible. See Phone Number Sharing, below.
- User-generated content — posts you create (title, description, category, location), images you upload, and the communities you create or join.
Collection of Routine Information
The App tracks basic information about its users. This information includes, but is not limited to, IP addresses, device type and operating system, app version, timestamps, and the pages or screens you access within the App. None of this information can personally identify a specific user on its own, and we use it for routine administration, security, and maintenance.
We also collect crash and stability metrics through Sentry to keep the App reliable.
Location Services
Some features of the App use your device's location to show you posts and helpers nearby. We only access your location with your permission, and you can change that permission at any time in your device's Settings.
- What we ask for. When you first use a feature that needs your location — for example, picking a location on a map for a post, or filtering the feed by distance — your device will ask you to grant ChesedLink access to your location.
- What we collect. When you grant access, the App uses your location on-device to drive features. We do not store your precise GPS coordinates on our servers. When you post, only the neighborhood or approximate location you select is associated with the post.
- What happens if you deny it. You can still use the App without granting location access. Features that depend on location (such as the map picker or the "near me" filter) will be unavailable or limited until you grant permission.
- Revoking access. You can revoke location permission at any time from iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → ChesedLink, or Android Settings → Apps → ChesedLink → Permissions → Location.
Phone Number Sharing
ChesedLink never shares your phone number without your explicit consent.
- By default, your phone number is hidden. It is not displayed on your profile, on your posts, or to other users.
- Per-post visibility. When you create a post, you can choose to display your full contact details (including phone number), email only, or no contact info. The default is to hide contact info; sharing your phone number requires you to opt in on each post that displays it.
- Helper interest flow. When you express interest in helping with someone else's post, the post owner can choose to reveal contact information (which may include a phone number) only to the helpers they approve. This sharing happens within the App; we do not give your phone number to anyone else, and we do not use it for marketing.
- SMS messaging. We do not use your phone number to send marketing or promotional text messages. We may, with your consent, send transactional texts in the future (for example, an SMS verification code). If we ever add such messaging, you will be asked to opt in and can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
Push Notifications
ChesedLink can send push notifications to keep you informed of activity that matters to you (a response to your post, a new request in your community, account security alerts).
- Opt-in. When you first use the App, your device will ask whether to allow ChesedLink to send notifications. You can decline, and you can change your choice later in your device's Settings.
- Granular controls. Inside the App's Settings, you can choose which categories of notifications you want to receive (for example, "responses to my posts" or "new urgent requests in my area"). Account security notifications cannot be disabled.
- Marketing. We do not send marketing or advertising push notifications.
- Tokens. To deliver notifications, we store an opaque device push token on our servers. It cannot be used to identify your device outside of the push notification system, and it is deleted when you sign out or uninstall the App.
Cookies and Local Storage
The App uses local device storage (and, on the web, cookies) to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and improve performance. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or fingerprinting.
Advertisement and Other Third Parties
We do not display advertisements in ChesedLink, and we do not share your information with advertisers, ad networks, or data brokers.
We use a small number of service providers that process information on our behalf, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations:
- Supabase — backend hosting, authentication, database, and file storage.
- Expo — mobile development framework and over-the-air update delivery.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting. We send opaque user IDs only, never your email or other personal data.
- PostHog — product analytics. We send opaque user IDs only, never your email or other personal data.
- Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivery of push notifications, when you have opted in.
Links to Third Party Websites
We have included links in the App for your use and reference. We are not responsible for the privacy policies on these websites. You should be aware that the privacy policies of these websites may differ from our own.
How Information Is Shared
Information you share with other users by design:
- Your posts, profile information, community memberships, expressions of interest, and any contact information you choose to display on a post.
- Anonymous posts hide your name from other users; we still know who posted in order to enforce these terms.
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may disclose information when required by applicable law, to comply with a valid legal process, to prevent death or serious bodily injury, to prevent fraud, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ChesedLink, our users, or others.
Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your account data while your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time from in-app Settings or by emailing support@chesedlink.com. Deletion requests are processed within 30 days. Some data may be retained longer where required by law or for abuse prevention.
Your Rights and Choices
You may access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time from in-app Settings or by contacting us. You may opt out of non-essential push notifications and revoke location permission from your device's Settings.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to data portability, the right to object to processing, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, the CCPA grants you additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we have collected and the right to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information.
Children
ChesedLink is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The security of your personal information is important to us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and we store authentication sessions in iOS Keychain or Android EncryptedSharedPreferences. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Changes To This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy is effective as of May 17, 2026 and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.
We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the email address associated with your account or by placing a prominent notice within the App.
